Navi Mumbai College Fee Fiasco: It has been confirmed that a law college in Navi Mumbai has refunded excess fees charged to two former students.

Former students of Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law complained to the state Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) about the wrongdoing.

Earlier this week, the FRA published the minutes of its hearing, which took place in March.

Additional fees are accepted by the college

While acknowledging that students were charged additional fees, the institute blamed a clerk.

The institute allegedly overcharged FRA-determined fees, according to the complaint.

Their grievance had been ignored, they claimed, when they asked the college officials to refund the excess amount.

Following this, the FRA asked the college to submit its explanation. The college responded in December by informing the FRA they had refunded the excess amount to the complainants.

The State’s Fee Regulatory Authority (FRA) previously shut down a law college in Navi Mumbai for overcharging students for two years in a row.

After noticing that Agnel School of Law, Vashi, charged higher fees than what was approved, the authority slashed its fees by over 55%.

The college asked for a review of the FRA-set fees, and the agency agreed to refund the excess fees.

FRA fixed the fees for LLB 3-year and 5-year programmes at Rs 24,000 per annum in 2021-22, a total of Rs 1.2 crore over two years.

As the college didn’t seek an upward revision in 2022-23, the fee for the following year remained the same.
