The ‘Serious Men’ and ‘The Lunchbox’ actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will celebrate his birthday for the seventh time at the Cannes Film Festival. From a small town in Uttar Pradesh, he struggled to establish a name for himself in the industry.

In 1999, Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his Bollywood début with a small part in Aamir Khan’s Sarfarosh. The actor ascended to prominence in 2010 with the release of the film Peepli Live. His performance in the web series ‘Sacred Games’ also garnered him widespread acclaim and international renown.

Speaking of his birthday ceremonies, Nawaz, who is a member of the Indian contingent at Cannes this year, stated, “Representing India is always a privilege. I have celebrated six anniversaries at Cannes because my films have been selected, but this year, as an Indian delegate, it is more special.”

As it is Nawazuddin’s 48th birthday and he is celebrating it for the seventh time at Cannes, here is a look at some of the actor’s most memorable roles, iconic lines, and lesser-known facts:

1. From his 2012 releases of ‘Miss Lovely’ and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur,’ to his 2013 releases ‘Monsoon Shootout’, ‘The Lunchbox,’ and ‘Bombay Talkies,’ to his 2016 release ‘Raman Raghav 2.0,’ and 2018 release ‘Manto,’ all of his films have been screened at the Cannes Film Festival, where the actor has been celebrating his birthday.

Nawazuddin was born in Budhana, a small hamlet in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, on May 19, 1974. He is the oldest sibling of eight.

3. He also appeared in ‘Shool’ (1999) and ‘Jungle’ (2000) by Ram Gopal Varma, as well as ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ (2003) by Rajkumar Hirani.

However, it was not until his performance in ‘Black Friday’ (2007) that filmmakers and the public began to recognise him as an actor.
