Gurugram, June 27 (IANS) The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Gurugram has seized liquid nicotine from a retail vend in the city’s upscale Golf Course Extension Road, an official said on Thursday. Sale and purchase of liquid nicotine is completely banned in Haryana.
Gurugram Drugs Control Officer Amandeep Chauhan said that the vend owner has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was running the vend called “Hello Whap” without having any licence.
“We had received a tip-off that banned nicotine substance was being traded in one of the vends in Golf Course Extension Road. Subsequently, a team was constituted which raided the outlet and found nicotine in liquid form, which was sold in the form of whap,” Chauhan said.
The liquid nicotine was illegally imported from the US and sold to high-end customers living in the area. It is generally used in electronic cigarette and hookah.
The officer pointed out that the locality is known for the presence of a number of night clubs which are frequented by various groups of people, especially teenagers.
“We have seized a huge quantity of liquid nicotine, electronic cigarettes, hookah and other form of electronic items used for its consumption. The market value of the seized liquid nicotine is around Rs 2 lakh,” Chauhan said.
