Lucknow, July 18 (IANS) To inculcate the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among youth, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to involve the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Scouts in training of students of madarasas.

Baldev Aulakh, minister of state for minority affairs, said here NCC and Scout training will ensure physical fitness, and children will also learn about nation and patriotism at these camps.

“We have decided to provide NCERT books at madarasas. If they want to study any other language, like Urdu, Farsi, or anything else, they can do so along with NCERT books,” he said.

The Yogi government, he said wanted to pave the way for smart madarasas by distributing laptops and providing smart techniques of education. “In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, we want to ensure that all marginalised and minority communities get better education and good jobs,” he said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said in January the madaras education would be modernised to bring students at par with children of other schools.

“We can think about modernisation of madarasas. Closing them down is not a solution. Timely improvements should be considered. I also ask Sanskrit schools that besides traditional education they should give computer, English, science and mathematics education to enable students face competition,” the Chief Minister said.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union minister for minority affairs, has also said a scheme to train madarasa teachers would be rolled out next month. “We want to link madarasas with the formal education system. As a first step, madarasa teachers will be trained in formal education. Madarasas will be asked to identify these teachers for training.”

In the first phase, the government will provide one-month training to as many as 200 teachers across the country. The bridge course will be available from eighth standard onwards to help madarasa students get formal secondary/higher secondary school degrees.

Madarasa is the Arabic word for any type of educational institution, secular or religious, whether for elementary instruction or higher learning.
