NEET, JEE Exams 2020: Expert panel to submit recommendations to MHRD today

National Testing Agency (NTA) is likely to submit its recommendations on the feasibility of holding the JEE main and NEET 2020 exam today on July 3. On Thursday, July 2, HRD ministry sought a report from a panel of experts headed by National Testing Agency (NTA) chief Vineet Joshi to see if the situation is conducive to conduct the NEET and JEE exams scheduled in the second half of this month.

Candidates have been asking to postpone of JEE and NEET exams. HRD minister said in his video message that in view of the increasing number of Coronavirus cases all over the country, a large number of students are demanding the postponement of JEE and NEET.

On Thursday, July 2, 2020, Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that he has asked a panel including DG, National Testing Agency (NTA) and other experts to review the pandemic situation amidst surging cases across the nation, and submit their recommendation regarding the holding of the NEET and JEE entrance exams.

The minister notified that the decision has been made after looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students and their parents.

HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Thursday wrote on his twitter handle, “Looking at the prevailing circumstances and requests received from students and parents appearing for JEE and NEET examinations, a committee comprising the DG {director general} NTA and other experts has been advised to review the situation and submit its recommendations to the HRD ministry latest by tomorrow.”

Every year, lakhs of students take the JEE and NEET exams. The JEE Main (April session) is slated to be held from July 18 to 23 while the NEET 2020 exam is scheduled for July 26.
