In a shameful incident, an Indian man was produced before a court in New Jersey, on the charges of sexual assault after he groped a woman on an Air India flight from Mumbai to Newark, on Thursday.

According to the prosecutor, Ganesh Parkar, 40, sat next to the woman in the economy class although he had a business class seat. The woman later found that her blanket had been pulled off her body while she was asleep. She then covered herself with the blanket again and went back to sleep. When she opened her eyes for the second time, she found accused’s hand inside her shirt.

Soon the woman started yelling, “What the hell are you doing?” The incident then caught the attention of the flight attendants who instantly asked Parkar to move back to his assigned seat.

Reportedly, Parkar asked the crew members to let him talk to the woman. But his requests were refused right away. He then send her two notes saying he had been “stupid” and apologized for the “moment’s stupidity”.

As per a report in Reuters, the man was released on bail after he furnished a bond of $50,000 (approximately Rs 33.9 lakh). He has been put under house arrest.

The man’s lawyer contended that his client “asserts his innocence”.  Parkar, a resident of Robbinsville, New Jersey, may face a jail term of up to 2 years if found guilty.
