Newsd Haryana Assembly 2019 Opinion Poll: BJP to sweep state, retain power

Haryana legislative elections concluded on October 21, Monday. Voting took place across 90 legislative assembly seats in the state. A total of 1,169 candidates, including 105 women and a transgender, are in the fray. While the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and JJP are contesting on all 90 seats, the BSP is in the fray on 87 seats, the INLD is contesting on 81 seats. As many as 375 candidates contesting as independents.

In the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections, Congress bagged 15 seats, INLD 19 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the government with 47 seats.

The result of the polls will be declared on Thursday, October 24. In the run-up, Newsd has conducted an opinion poll. We share with you the number of expected seats, the major political parties in the state are expected to win.

According to the Newsd opinion poll based on inputs journalists, political workers and police sources, the saffron party is expected to be back to power once again with even a larger mandate. According to estimations, the BJP is expected to win 65 seats in the 90-member-legislative house. Closest rival Congress is expected to win 15 seats, while the regional parties JJP and INLD could win 8 and 2 seats respectively.

If we look Lok Sabha constituency-wise, BJP could sweep Gurgaon, winning all 9 assembly seats, the party is further expected to perform phenomenally in Ambala, Karnal, Faridabad and Kurukshetra, winning 8 constituencies. The success for INLD is forecasted to be limited to Sirsa and Hisar, with the party expected to win 1 each in the said Lok Sabha units. JJP are winning 8 seats, 3 in Sirsa, another 3 in Hisar, while 1 each in Kurukshetra and Bhiwani-Mehendragarh constituency.

Good news for Congress seems to be coming only from assembly constituencies under Rohtak and Sonipat Lok Sabha seats, where the grand old party could win 5 and 4 seats respectively.

Hansi has a maximum of 25 candidates in the running, while Ambala Cantt and Shahbad have just six. Narnaul is the smallest constituency in terms of voters, with just 144,066 electorates, while Badshahpur is the largest, with 396,281 voters.

While one constituency has less than 1.5 lakh voters, some 47 constituencies have between 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh voters and 42 constituencies have more than 2 lakh voters.

The state has 19,578 polling stations, which will use 27,611 voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPATs) machines.

In the 2014 Haryana Assembly elections, held on 15 October 2014, the saffron party won the majority in the Assembly and Manohar Lal Khattar was chosen to head the new government.
