Ninja apologises after Twitch streamed porn on his page

San Francisco, Aug 12 (IANS) Gaming celebrity Richard Tyler Blevins who goes by the name ‘Ninja’ on digital platforms has apologised to his followers on Amazon’s live streaming subsidiary Twitch after the platform began promoting a channel streaming pornography.

Earlier in August, Ninja announced that he was quitting Twitch to join Microsoft-owned live video game streaming service Mixer. As of July, Fortnite expert Ninja was the most followed streamer on Twitch with over 14 million followers and over 50,000 viewers per week.

To promote its platform after Ninja’s exit, Twitch began promoting other channels to his former profile page, one of which was a pornography channel, The Verge reported on Sunday.

Apologising for the adult content being streamed on his old Twitch pages, Ninja said he was disgusted and sorry.

In a series of Tweets, Twitch CEO Emmett Shear apologised to Ninja for the incident and said the platform had been experimenting with showing recommended content across Twitch, including on streamer’s pages that are offline.

However, it’s not the first time that Twitch channels streamed porn, the report said.

The company temporarily suspended new creators from streaming back after a group of trolls abused a section with pornography, illegal content and other restricted material earlier this year.
