NIRF Rankings 2019 complete list: The Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) releases the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2019 on Monday, April 8. The ministry also announced the Atal Ranking of Institutions (ARIIA 2019) on Innovation Achievements.

President Ram Nath Kovind announced the NIRF Rankings 2019 at an event organised at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

What is National Institutional Ranking Framework?

National Institutional Ranking Framework has been defined as a methodology adopted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Government of India) to rank institutions of higher education in India. It was approved by the MHRD and launched by Minister of Human Resource Development on 29 September 2015.

The rankings are based on the basis of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.

The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.

The rankings will be for courses like – Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law.

Have a glance at top 10 colleges in the ‘Overall’ category as per NIRF ranking 2019:

  • Rank 1: Indian Institute of Technology Madras
  • Rank 2: Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru
  • Rank 3: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
  • Rank 4: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
  • Rank 5: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
  • Rank 6: Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
  • Rank 7 Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi
  • Rank 8: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee
  • Rank 9: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
  • Rank 10: Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi

In 2018, in the university list, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore topped the list, while the following spots had gone to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Anna University, Chennai registered rank 4, University of Hyderabad clinched the fifth rank, and Jadavpur University hold the sixth position.

While in the overall category last year, Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay had grabbed the first three spots.
