The South Pacific island country of Niue which has a mere population of under 1800 has dragged Sweden’s top internet giants to courts.

In a suit filed a week earlier at the Stockholm Dist. Court, Niue’ Government has sued the Internet foundation of Sweden over an unfair use of .nu domain. The lawyers fighting the case on behalf of the Niue Government have asked for a compensation in the tunes of $27 million and $37 million.

According to Park Brumark, the lawyer for the island nation’s Government said to the ABC that the argument is based on the unfair usage of the domain name by the Internet Foundation in Sweden(IIS), the current registrar for .nu.

Niue had missed out on millions of dollars’ worth of revenue due to the complicated licensing policy, claimed the island premier, Toke Talagi.
