Noida: Guests shop online for Rs 13,000 after man leaves phone at home

Guests who came to stay at a 23-year old man’s home allegedly shopped for Rs 13,000 using his phone number when he was away from home.

As per the reports, the victim, Akash Kumar hails from Bihar and stay at a rented apartment in Greater Noida. He shares his accommodation with two friends named Pramod Patel and Anand Patel who works with him in the same office.

Akash told in the statement Anand’s Uncle Sagar Patel had visited them last month. “Patel had come from Madhya Pradesh and stayed at our room for a few days. Our company does not allow mobile phones or wallets at the workplace. So, we have to keep them at home.”

He also told that Sagar had seen him keeping his mobile and debit card in a bag in the room. He said that he and his friends went for work while he stayed at home. As there was no pattern lock on my phone it was easy for him to open it. He used my debit card and the OTP that was delivered to my number to make the transaction and also deleted the messages from the bank.

When Akash opened his phone and found the normal SIM card cropped into micro SIM he sensed something fishy. Following which he visited the bank and found out about the transaction.

“When the transactions were made, my roommates were with me at work,” he said. When confronted, Patel left the room in a hurry, Kumar told media.

The SHO of Sector 58 police station said that a case of cheating under Section 420 of the IPC has been registered in the matter.
