Noida: Water tariff hiked by 7.5 per cent amid coronavirus lockdown

This hike in tariff comes two years after it was hiked but up to 25 per cent for different categories of consumers.

At a time when people are facing financial crunch because of coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown, residents of Uttar Pradesh‘s Noida suffered another blow as the authority has increased water tariff. Noida authority has increased the water tariff by 7.5 per cent. According to officials, the new rates will be effective from April 1, 2020. This hike in tariff comes two years after it was hiked but up to 25 per cent for different categories of consumers.

After this hike, residents living EWS (Economically Weaker Section) had to pay the water bill at the rate of Rs 27 and Rs 50 per month. Now it has been again hiked by 7.5 per cent. Now, these people will have to pay the water bill at the rate of Rs 29.5. Similarly, LIG (Lower Income Group) residents earlier used to pay Rs 35.50 per month. Now they will have to pay at the rate of Rs 40.31.

New tariff will increase revenue of Noida authority

The allottees of HIG (Higher Income Group) used to pay Rs 155 and duplex allottees Rs 195 per month. But now they will have to pay at the rate of Rs 166.62 and Rs 209.62.

According to sources, the lockdown has adversely affected development activities in the city. This, in turn, has reduced revenue collection. Noida authority has taken this step to increase its revenue. According to BM Pokhriyal (DGM), Noida Authority the rates have been revised which were increased two years ago.
