Odisha BJP leader Upasna Mohapatra booked for assaulting tenant

BJP leader Upasna Mohapatra along with her husband Subharansu Biswal was on Wednesday booked along with a group of over 30 hooligans on the charges of allegedly assaulting a tenant in IRC Village and for the destruction of property on Tuesday evening in Bhubaneswar.

As per an FIR lodged by Tanya Ray, daughter of victim Pranab Kumar Ray, with the Nayapalli police, around 50 men and two women barged into her house at 4.10 pm when her parents were not present. Later, the complainant’s father and mother reached the spot.

While Pranab Kumar Ray was assaulted by the men, Upasna abused him and his wife, the complainant alleged, adding that Upasna was drunk. She further alleged that all of them forced the victim to vacate the house.

Tanya also mentioned in the FIR that her father was forced to write a ‘compromise letter’ at gunpoint by the accused. The men destroyed the CCTV cameras and footage, ransacked the house, and looted valuables before fleeing the place, she alleged reports Sambad.

“Ray was staying on rent at one Bijay Nayak’s house. Though Bijay had reportedly told Ray that he would sell his house to him, he later executed the deal with Upasna’s husband Subhransu Sekhar Biswal,” Police sources said.

“Further investigation is on and efforts are on to nab the other accused involved in ransacking the house and manhandling the complainant,” added Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash.

Upasna Mohapatra is the daughter of late Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra.
