Odisha common PG entrance test application process likely to begin in a week

The process will be conducted to grant admission to PG courses in state public universities and autonomous colleges.

New Delhi: The higher education department is expected to begin the application process for Common PG Entrance Test within a week. The department will be holding this entrance test for the first time across the state.

The process will be conducted to grant admission to PG courses in state public universities and autonomous colleges.

“Advertisement inviting applications from students for Common PG Entrance Test is expected to be published within a week. The application process is already delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic situation,” said Asoka Kumar Das, vice chairman of Odisha State Higher Education Council.

In the month of April, higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo conferred with vice-chancellors of the state public universities relation to conduct the test. Another meeting was held recently to finalize the process before publication of advertisement inviting applications for the entrance test.

As per the sources, final semester/year undergraduate (UG) students can register for the test.

Result of final semester exam will not be needed to apply or sit for the entrance test. The result of final year examination is must while preparing merit list or rank for admission into the PG courses.

“The department is planning to give a seven-day window period to students before the publication of merit list for filling up of results of final semester/year examinations. Merit list will be prepared by taking 30 points of career marking and 70 points of the entrance test marks,” said a higher education department officer.

Although the date of the entrance test is yet to be decided, the department is planning to do it post reviewing the Covid-19 situation across the state.

Only after the Supreme Court hearing pleas against the University Grants Commission (UGC)decision on conducting the final year university examinations by September 30, the entrance test further process depends. The hearing of the case has been adjourned till August 10.
