Odisha medical officer suspended for dereliction of duty

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (IANS) The Odisha government on Sunday suspended Sundargarh’s Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) in-charge Pankaj Patel for dereliction of duty.

The state government also issued a show cause notice to Sundargarh District Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan for lapses in implementing the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative in the district headquarters hospital, said sources from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Patel was placed under suspension on charges of not executing the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative, the sources said.

The move came after the visit of Secretary to the Chief Minister (Transformation and Initiative) V.K. Pandian to the Sundargarh district headquarters hospital on Sunday to review healthcare facilities and infrastructure.

During the visit, some patients complained that they were being asked to get medical tests done in private labs.

The state government had launched the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative on Gandhi Jayanti earlier this month.

Under the initiative, the state government would call on citizens to seek their feedback on the response and service they had received during their visit to the government hospitals and the police stations.
