Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said the NDA will meet on Sunday to formally choose its leader in Bihar. The meeting will be held at 12.30 pm, Kumar, who is likely to take oath for the fourth successive term in Bihar, has said.

The son of former minister Narendra Singh of the Nitish government, Sumit Singh has extended support to JD(U). Singh has won independent elections from Chakai. He met Nitish Kumar and congratulated him on NDA’s victory. Sumit Singh is believed to be supporting the NDA government as an independent MLA, according to reports.

Narendra Singh is the leader of the Patna University Students Union Politics and JP movement. Singh, Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, Nitish Kumar, and Jitan Ram Manjhi, who had an image of a vocal leader, were ministers during the chief ministership. He had a political friendship with Ram Vilas Paswan against Lalu and became the state president of the Lok Janshakti Party.

After the February 2005 assembly elections, Narendra Singh had withdrawn the claim of Ram Vilas, the key to the power of LJP, when the party’s state president took his majority of MLAs and befriended Nitish Kumar. After rebelling against Nitish Kumar, he joined Jitan Ram Manjhi. Then, 5 years ago, the then chairman of the Legislature Council, Avhesh Narayan Singh, had terminated Narendra Singh’s membership on the issue of joining the Manjhi party.

Meanwhile, following JD(U)’s poor performance in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly Election 2020, where Rashtriya Janata Dal emerged as the single-largest party and the BJP as the dominating ally in the NDA alliance with more seats than the JD(U), speculations were rife whether Nitish Kumar will remain the chief minister.

However, several top BJP leaders have confirmed that it had been agreed before that Nitish Kumar would be at the helm and BJP would go by its pre-poll promise. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned Nitish Kumar and his contribution to the thumping victory of the NDA in Bihar.
