Over 1.27 crore challans by ‘third eye’ of Delhi Police in 2020

Fatal road accidents reduced by 19%: Fatal road accidents decreased by 19% in 2020 as compared to 2019. In 2019, there were 1433 serious road accidents, 1163 in 2020, the lowest in the last 30 years.

Delhi Police said they have collected 30% more fines through traffic challans last year than in 2019. According to the information given in the Delhi Police annual press conference, out of a total of one crore 38 lakh, two thousand 249 Challans cut off in the year 2020, one crore 27 lakh three thousand 559 Challans were cut off with the help of the cameras. Whereas, 10 lakh 99 thousand 414 Challans were deducted by traffic policemen. People’s invoices were deducted for violating the rules like wrong parking, no helmet, triple riding, no seatbelt, etc.

124 crore collected in fine by Delhi Police 

The police said they have collected ₹124.16 cr. last year as compared to ₹94.07 in 2019, amounting to over ₹34L/day. The data showed 1,38,02,973 violations reported in 2020 as compared to 1,05,80,249 in 2019. The amount was higher due to a hike in fines for traffic violations under the newly introduced Motor Vehicle Act.

ITMS to be implemented across Delhi this year

 Police Commissioner said traffic police has prepared a project on an integrated traffic management system (ITMS) to make Delhi’s traffic system more sophisticated. This system is based on radar technology. Cameras will be installed at all intersections in the capital. This will prevent violation of traffic rules. This year, it is targeted to be implemented in the entire Delhi. In the year 2020, an invoice of 98 lakh 26 thousand 299 people violating red light and speed limit through cameras was cut.
