UP: Over 100 students earlier lathicharged for protesting against their school; now booked

The students on Tuesday had taken out a march to protest the alleged inhumane conditions in their school - Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Ashram Paddati Vidyalaya, which is run by social welfare department.

Hardoi police on Thursday registered an FIR against 100-150 students who were lathicharged for protesting against their school – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Ashram Paddati Vidyalaya for the aalleged financial irregularities in the institution.

Going by the reports, the students on Tuesday had taken out a march to protest the alleged inhumane conditions in their school, which is run by the social welfare department. They wanted to meet the district magistrate Pulkit Khare and explain to him the problems faced by them.

However, on the way to meet the district magistrate, the protester were allegedly cane-charged and beaten up by the cops. During the incident, nine students were injured but the cops have refuted the thrashing of students.

As quoted in a reports of leading online publication, Rakesh Anand, the station house officer (SHO), Behta Gokula, said that,  “They fell on their own in the melee as they tried to run away from the police station. Trouble makers are being identified through video and CCTV footage. Investigation will be transparent.”

Officials claim that protesting students were armed and had damaged government property in the police station, resorted to violence, destroyed documents and attempted to set the police station on fire.
