Pakistani immigrant Neeta Sodha to contest panchayat elections in Rajasthan

Neeta Sodha received Indian citizenship after living in India for 18 years and is now contesting Sarpanch election from Natwara gram panchayat in Rajasthan.

Pakistani immigrant Neeta Sodha to contest panchayat elections in Rajasthan

Neeta Sodha, a Pakistani immigrant who got Indian Citizenship four months back will be contesting panchayat elections in Rajasthan’s Natwara.

Neeta received her citizenship in September last year after coming to India way back in 2001 to pursue her education. She received Indian citizenship after living here for 18 years and is now contesting Sarpanch (village head) election from Natwara gram panchayat which falls under Tonk district.

As quoted in reports, Neeta said, “My father-in-law has been an active member in Panchayat and guides me in my political journey. I came to India 18 years back but I was given nationality just 4 months ago and now I am fighting for the Sarpanch elections.”

Sharing her experience in India, she said, “India has a better living condition for women and education that Pakistan. Since the time I have come here I have received great support from the people which helped me to move forward.”

She got enrolled in Ajmer”s Sophia College and completed her BA in 2005 and then got married in 2011. She studied till class XII in Sindh and then came to India.

While she, her sister and mother came to India, her father and brother continue to live in Pakistan and are engaged in farming.
