The oil marketing companies kept the prices of gasoline and diesel unchanged on Tuesday, November 29. Fuel prices have remained stable for the past five months.
Fuel prices are revised on a daily basis by public sector oil marketing corporations. The government reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre in May, resulting in the last significant nationwide variation in fuel prices.
Citywide price distribution
Petrol and diesel in Delhi cost Rs 96.72/litre and Rs 89.62/litre, respectively.
In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 106.31/litre and diesel costs Rs 94.27/litre.
In Chennai, petrol and diesel cost Rs 102.63/litre and Rs 94.24/litre, respectively, while in Kolkata, they cost Rs 106.03/litre and Rs 92.76/litre.
Public sector oil marketing companies adjust fuel prices in accordance with international benchmark prices and foreign exchange rates (OMCs). Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd are examples of OMCs (HPCL).
On November 18, both benchmarks closed at their lowest levels since September 27, extending losses for a second week, with Brent down 9% and WTI down 10%.
