Kerala: Police officer suspended for derogatory WhatsApp status

Amid ongoing nationwide lockdown to fight coronavirus, a Kerala police officer has been suspended from service for a WhatsApp status. The cop in his status had said – “you should pay if you make me work”. He put this status apparently after the state government in an order said that it has decided to cut one month’s salary of its employees in five instalments. According to the order, six days of salary will be deducted every month for the next five months.

Rajeesh Thambillam, a civil police officer posted at Vidyanagar police station, was suspended by the district police chief after he put this status on the instant messaging app. The suspension will be for the time till the investigation is underway in the matter.

The investigation report will be submitted by the Kasaragod Special Branch.

Thambillam, who hails from Elambachi in Thrikkaripur, reportedly also used some disgusting sentences in his status which was put on WhatsApp on April 21.
