Police seizes Rs 45 crore demonetised currency in Chennai

The Chennai police on Thursday seized over ₹ 45 crores from a person who claimed to be an advocate and businessman. The money was in demonetised currency and was kept in cartons,  found in a shop-cum-residence in Zakaria Colony, Second street, Kodambakkam.

A police team headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police searched the residence of Dhandapani (50), who is also a businessman who owns a shop selling uniforms to schools, police, and military personnel.

He was taken to the police station for questioning.

On being asked, he claimed that the recovered currency was given to him by some other man, who had given it to him for its safe custody.

The Income Tax and Enforcement Directorate officials have been informed about the seizure.
