Warsaw, Feb 25 (IANS) A poll published here has predicted that President Andrzej Duda would win 41.9 per cent in the first round of the vote in Poland’s presidential elections on May 10, almost 20 per cent more than opposition candidate Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska.

The poll was conducted on behalf of the local daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna and radio station RMF FM and based on a nationwide sample of 1,100 adult Poles, Xinhua news agency reported.

Kidawa-Blonska, candidate of the opposition Civic Platform (PO) party, was projected to receive 22.2 per cent of the vote. Third place would be taken by Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, chairman of the Polish People’s Party (PSL), with 10.4 per cent.

In the second round of the elections, Duda would win 49.6 per cent against Kidawa-Blonska, who serves as deputy marshal of the Sejm (lower house of parliament). However, the current President would lose in a duel with Kosiniak-Kamysz, with the former projected to secure 43.9 per cent of the vote, while the latter 45.9 per cent.

The President of Poland, who is limited to two five-year terms, is directly elected using the two-round system.
