Pradosh Vrat is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati. Devotees pray on this day to seek lord Shiva’s blessings. It is observed on both Trayodashi tithis (Dates) – Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi respectively.

Trayodashi Tithi begins at 3:16 PM on July 2 and ends at 1:16 PM on July 3.

Pradosh Vrat July 2 Shubh Muhurat

The timing for conducting the Pradosh Vrat Puja is between 7:23 PM to 9:24 PM.

Rituals and Significance:

Devotees observing the Pradosh Vrat, take bath an hour before the sunset, praying to the complete Shiv family – Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati, Ganesha, Kartikeya and Nandi- the bull. After invoking the Lord, Pradosh Vrat Katha is read out and prasad distributed amongst family and friends.

Pradosh Vrat Puja Vidhi

Shodshopchar puja steps:

  • Dhayna – connect the inner self with the Lord
  • Asana – Respectfully place the idol of Lord Shiva or the Shiva Linga on a wooden platform meant for puja.
  • Padya – offer water to the lord’s feet.
  • Arghya – offer water to the Lord for washing his face and hands.
  • Achaman- drink water from your palm after offering it to God.
  • Snana – offer water to the Lord for bathing. One may use water, milk, coconut water, Gangajal, honey, curd etc for doing the Abhishek).
  • Vastra – offer a fresh piece of cloth to the deity
  • Yagnopaveeth – offer the sacred Janeyu and Akshat to the Lord
  • Gandha – offer chandan paste
  • Pushpa – offer Datura flowers, Vilva leaves etc
  • Dhoop – offer incense sticks and dhoop
  • Deep – offer an oil lamp
  • Naivedhya – offer bhog to God
  • Pradakshina or Parikrama/ Circumambulate – stand up on your feet and turn around from your right.
