Chandigarh, Oct 13 (IANS) As many as 29 of the 31 agitating farmers’ organisations in Punjab on Tuesday decided to attend a meeting called by the Centre to discuss the contentious farm laws in the national capital on Wednesday.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the unions held here to discuss the next course of action.

However, the organisations also unanimously decided that their protests would continue till October 15.

They were undecided about continuing with their state-wide ‘Rail Roko’ protests.

The decision to meet the Central government was taken by the farmers’ unions after a meeting with the state government representatives led by minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa.

Earlier in the day, the Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee, a body representing workers from the Majha region, announced that it would not attend the meeting, while the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) made it clear that it will be a part of the discussions with the Centre.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) also decided to withdraw its agitation from railway tracks, but vowed to intensify its protest outside corporate houses in the region.

The Central government had asked the protesting farmers’ unions to come to to New Delhi for a discussion on October 14.

It was conveyed in the second letter sent by the Union government in the last five days, requesting the farmers for a meeting.
