Former U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu expressed pride in her performance after defeating American Peyton Stearns 7-6(4), 7-6(5) in the Korea Open’s first round in Seoul. This victory marks Raducanu’s first win in 48 days.
Raducanu lost four games in a row after taking a 4-1 lead in the first set, but managed to prevail in the tiebreak. In the second set, Stearns won three consecutive games to serve for the set at 5-3. However, Raducanu broke back and won the second tiebreak to claim the match.
“I’m proud to have made it through to the next round. It was very humid, the ball was bouncing around a lot. It was a tough match to get through,” Raducanu said. She will face Chinese eighth seed Yuan Yue in the next round.
