Rajasthan: 14 dead, 24 injured after tent during religious function collapses in Barmer

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has initiated an investigation into the Barmer tent collapse case.

In a shocking incident reported, at least 14 people died while 24 others were injured after a pandaal collapsed in Rajasthan’s Barmer district due to heavy rains and storm. Soon the injured persons were admitted to a hospital.

Going by the reports, most of the people present at the religious function held in in Jasaul area, were over 50 years.

According to some reports, after the structure collapsed, an electric current spread due to rain.

“A ‘Ram Katha’ was organised at Jasol area of the district when the shamiana was uprooted by strong winds trapping the people sitting under it,” Additional Superintendent of Police, Khinv Singh told reporters.

The death toll is likely to rise.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted about the Barmer tent collapse incident.

PM Modi said, “Collapse of a Pandaal’ in Rajasthan’s Barmer is unfortunate. My thoughts are with the bereaved families and I wish the injured a quick recovery.”

 


Ashok Gehlot has initiated an investigation into the Barmer tent collapse case. He also said that he has directed the concerned officials to carry out the rescue and relief work.
