The counting of votes for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in 21 districts of Rajasthan is underway on Tuesday, days after the polls were concluded in the northern state of India, and as per early trends, the Congress party has raced past the Bharatiya Janata Party in both polls.

In the Panchayat Samiti member seats, the Congress has won 82 out of 153 so far, while the BJP is trailing with 56. Even in the Zila Parishad, the Congress has maintained a comfortable lead over their arch-rivals.

The polls to elect 636 Zilla Parishad members and 4,371 Panchayat Samiti members were conducted in four phases on November 23, November 27, December 1, and December 5.

The elections were held in the districts of Ajmer, Banswara, Barmer, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Churu, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sikar, Tonk, and Udaipur.

Polling for the first and second phase was held on November 23 and November 27, followed by the third phase on December 1 and the fourth phase on December 5.

The panchayat election in 21 districts of Rajasthan was held under the supervision of heavy police deployment to ensure adherence to coronavirus norms in light of the pandemic.
