Rajasthan Royals (RR) have released skipper Steve Smith – who failed to impress while leading the side in UAE. One of the most prolific run-scorers in world cricket, Smith also did not have a good tournament with the bat in the previous IPL season which was said to be one of the main reasons behind RR’s poor show in the tournament.
As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Rajasthan, who won the IPL’s inaugural edition in 2008, took a bold step by releasing Smith ahead of IPL 2021 mini-auction. Smith got his IPL 2020 campaign off to a good start with back-to-back fifties, but both knocks came at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium – which was the smallest of the three venues in UAE.
Sanju Samson has been named captain of the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2021. The franchise made the announcement today, while confirming the list of players they’ve released or traded ahead of the auction in February.
