New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) Rajya Sabha MP of BJP Rakesh Sinha on Saturday wrote to the Vice Chancellor of Jamil Millia, Nazma Akhtar, in the wake of violence that erupted on Friday. Sinha urged the Vice Chancellor to form a committee to probe organised violence by communal elements with League mindset on Saturday.

In his letter, he wrote “violence, that took place on December 13 was an unfortunate and shameful event for any central university. Opposing and staging protests are part and parcel of a democracy but it is unacceptable when it is done in a fasist way.” He also added that “what happened on Friday during protest was an organised violence by communal elements with league mindset.”

Calling the recently passed Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 secular, the parliamentarian said “Some people are highly influenced by stone pelters of Kashmir. They raised slogans provoking communal sentiments.”

He wrote that “the violent protest that took place on Friday, is an attack on democratic set up of the country and should be investigated. Being a court member of the university, I request you to probe the aforesaid incident under the leadership of retired judge and identify the perpetrators conspiring for communal tension and take action against them without any delay.”

A march by Left-wing students of Jamia Millia Islamia university to Parliament turned violent on Friday after Delhi police, in a bid to stop the protest, lathi-charged the protesters. The students belonging to the All India Students’ Association (AISA) were protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
