With the first phase of elections just three days away, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday released party manifesto. Senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, launched the manifesto, described as “Sankalp Patra”. The tagline for the party manifesto is “Phir Ek Bar, Modi Sarkar”.

Here are key takeaways from the Bharatiya Janata Party manifesto for Lok Sabha Elections 2019

  • All farmers to come under the ambit of Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme in which the government will provide direct benefit transfer of Rs 6000 in three instalments of Rs 2000.
  • Party promises to give pension facility to small and marginal farmers after 60 years of age.
  • Ram temple will be built as soon as BJP is voted to power. Rajnath Singh said, “As far as Ram Mandir is concerned, we reiterate the promise made in the last elections. We will weigh all our option & we will try that the Ram Mandir be built as soon as possible in a harmonious environment.”
  • “We had a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism, it will continue till terror is not eliminated completely,” Rajnath Singh said. Security forces will continue to get a free hand, while the purchase of outstanding defence equipment will be fast-tracked.
  • Party will implement NRC (National Register of Citizens) in a phased manner in other parts of the country.
  • Pucca houses by 2022 will be provided to families who either are living in a Kucha house or have no house.
  • “We reiterate our position since the time of the Jan Sangh to the abrogation of Article 370. We are committed to annulling Article 35A of the Constitution of India as the provision is discriminatory against non-permanent residents and women of Jammu and Kashmir,” the manifesto read.

On April 2, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had released the party’s manifesto in presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram.

Rahul Gandhi had released its manifesto titled ‘Will Deliver’, in which special focus was given to youth and farmer. From opening vacancies for job creation to providing a minimum support income of Rs 72,000 per year for the poor families – the party went all out to woo the voters. The Congress manifesto also pledged to investigate Rafale plane deal along with several deals the party entered into by the BJP Government in the last 5 years.

The Lok Sabha elections will take place across seven phases and the counting for the votes will begin on May 23. In Phase I of the voting for the 17th Lok Sabha, elections will take place in 91 Lok Sabha constituencies across 20 states on April 11.
