Rama Navami is a spring Hindu festival that celebrates the birthday of lord Rama. The festival celebrates the descent of god Vishnu as Rama avatar, through his birth to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya.

The auspicious occasion falls in the ‘Shukla Paksha’ on the ninth day of the month of Chaitra, corresponding to the March/April of the Gregorian calendar which also marks the last day of the Vasanta Navratri. The festival celebrates the victory of ‘Dharma’ over ‘Adharma’.

On the occasion of Rama Navami, here are the five most famous temples of Lord Ram in India:

Kanak Bhavan Temple:

The ‘Kanak Bhawan’ is the biggest, religiously one of the most important and architecturally an aesthetically built temple dedicated to Lord Ram and his divine consort Sita. It is located in the pilgrim holy town of Ayodhya (birthplace of Lord Ram) in the state of Uttar Pradesh of India. The history of the temple dates back to the Treta Yug. It was gifted by Lord Ram’s step-mother Kaikeyi to him and his consort Sita as a marriage gift. The temple is constantly being renovated and reconstructed from then. The first reconstruction was done by Lord Ram’s son Kush in the dawn of Dwapar Yug.

Bhadrachalam Temple:

Also known as Sita Ramchandraswamy temple, it is located in the city of Bhadrachalam in Telangana. It is one of the most famous temple of Lord Rama, situated on the banks of river Godavari River. It is 300 km far from the state capital Hyderabad. The main gods and goddesses of the temple are Lord Ram, Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshman while the tempting festivals celebrated there are Vykuntha Ekadasi and Sri Rama Navami.

Ramaswamy Temple:

Beautiful Dravidian style architecture off this place is quite fascinating and this temple is a listed among the best Ram temples in India. The temple is located in a district of Kumbakonam in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was constructed 400 years back during the time of Achutha Nayaka. The temple has 3-tiered gopuram and Kalasams on the top. The main temple portrays the image of Lord Rama sitting with Goddess Sita and there are also images of Lakshmana, Bharatha and Chatruguna standing on his feet and Lord Hanuman is seen praying.

Triprayar Sri Rama Temple:

This place is one of the most popular temples which are dedicated to Lord Rama. It is located in the colourful city Thrissur of Kerala. Lord Rama is worshipped as Triprayarappan or Triprayar Thevar in Triprayar Sri Rama temple.

Sri Kodandarama Swamy Temple:

Listed among the most prestigious and divine shrines the temple is visited by thousands and lakhs of travellers from all across the country on the daily basis. This Ram Temple is located in the lap of Tirupati in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. According to the legends, it is the very place where Lord Ram, Laxman and Goddess Sita stayed for a while after returning from a war with Ravana the demon king.
