The Baltimore Ravens are bringing back a respected assistant coach to lead their offence. On Tuesday, the Ravens announced that offensive coordinator Todd Monken had been hired.

John Harbaugh, the head coach, said in a statement, “We conducted 21 interviews with 14 candidates as part of a comprehensive process involving broad organisational participation.” “Todd’s leadership and coaching skills were immediately apparent. He has a history of designing and instructing offensive systems that enable players to achieve success at the highest level. We are eager to begin constructing an offence that will help us compete for championships.”

Monken has served as Georgia’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the past three seasons, helping the programme win back-to-back national titles. Monken excelled in January, when the Bulldogs defeated TCU 65-7 in the championship game.

While Monken has spent the majority of his coaching career in the college ranks, he served as the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2018. In 2019, he served as the Browns’ offensive coordinator for one season under Freddie Kitchens. From 2007 to 2010, Monken was also the Jaguars’ receivers coach.

From 2013 to 2015, Monken served as Southern Miss’ head coach, compiling a 13-25 record, including a 9-5 finish and 7-1 conference record in 2015.

This is the second consecutive year that Harbaugh has recruited a coordinator with NFL experience from the college ranks. Harbaugh rehired Mike Macdonald as the team’s defensive coordinator after he left the organisation in 2021 to become Jim Harbaugh’s defensive coordinator at Michigan. He had been with the Ravens since 2014, rising from the position of coaching intern to that of linebackers coach.

After the 2022 season, former offensive coordinator Greg Roman will leave the organisation to pursue other opportunities.
