A photograph featuring a crying old lady along with a schoolgirl is making headlines to every leading media house, claiming a tale that the viral picture is of a girl who ended up finding her grandmother in an old age home after she visited it as a part of her school tour.
According to many acclaimed stories until now, the parents had lied to the child and told her that her grandmother was living with relatives when in reality they had dumped her in an old age home. The unexpected reunion between the two brought tears, which was captured by the photographer.
However, after a probe into the matter revealed the actual story behind the viral photograph. In an interview to a media house, it came in front that viral picture was photographed by Kalpit S Bhachech back in 2007. While the pair in the picture is indeed granddaughter-grandmother duo, the story behind it is not completely true.
Bhakti, the schoolgirl in the picture, told the news channel that though the picture is going viral with a narrative that her grandmother Damyanti behen was left in the old age home, in reality, she was staying there by choice. She was aware that her grandmother staying at an old age home but not sure which one.
Though the photograph was clicked years back, it made to rounds on social media in past two days. As told by the photographer, BBC Gujarati had asked journalists from across the state to share the best photo stories of their career on the occasion of World Photography day, following which he shared this particular story. The social had picked up the photo quickly but connoted a wrong message.
