How to order groceries using WhatsApp from Reliance JioMart: Check steps

JioMart promises to stock over 50,000 grocery platform for the consumers to buy every necessary daily essential product.

On Wednesday, April 21, giant Facebook announced a $5.7-billion investment in Jio Platforms Ltd, which is owned by Reliance Industries Ltd. India’s small and medium businesses (SMBs), which are struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic, got a shot in the arm after CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced it on social media.

“Our goal is to enable new opportunities for businesses of all sizes, but especially for the more than 60 million small businesses across India,” the companies said in a joint statement.

The very first move the deal was expected to be on an e-commerce platform, JioMart which is developed by Reliance Industries. JioMart promises to stock over 50,000 grocery platform for the consumers to buy every necessary daily essential product. As of now, JioMart is available on the web only. The app will be soon available on Google Play Store and Apple App store after it is officially launched for all users.

To place an order on JioMart, you don’t need to download any particular app. You just need to send a WhatsApp message to +91 88500 08000. Currently, JioMart is accepting orders only for selected localities in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan.

How to order groceries from Reliance JioMart on WhatsApp?

Step 1: You first need to save +91 88500 08000 number on your smart-phone.

Step 2: Next open WhatsApp on your device and select the contact.

Step 3: Send a Hi message to that particular contact.

Step 4: An automated message will be sent to you with a link to order groceries from JioMart.

The message notes: “Welcome to JioMart WhatsApp Order Booking Service.

We are currently serving selected localities in Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan.

Orders placed by 7pm everyday will be available for pick up at your nearest JioMart Kirana within next 2 days.

Place your order here, link.

Note: The above link is only for your use and valid for next 30 mins. To generate a new link send Hi in the chat window.”

Step 5: To order groceries you just need to click on the given link.

Step 6: The link will take you to the JioMart site where first you will need to enter some details such as name, address, phone number and more.

Step 7: After entering all details click on Proceed.

After selecting the items that are required, JioMart will share the list of things with the local kirana on WhatsApp. Once the items are packed and billed, the customer will receive an alert with the store details. Since the feature is still in its nascent stage, the customer will have to go to the local store mentioned in the alert and pick up the goods. The mode of payment has been limited to cash only for now.

Should other online delivery platforms worry?

Several other e-commerce platforms available in the country from like BigBasket to Grofers to Amazon and more. Many companies such as Zomato, Swiggy, Uber among others have started delivering groceries at the doorstep. The launch of JioMart in collaboration with WhatsApp could pose a threat to these platforms. Jio and WhatsApp together have over 750 million users a lot of whom will be common. For now, we must wait to see what Facebook and Jio are up to with JioMart e-commerce platform.
