October 23 is the birth anniversary of famous comedian Deven Verma. Deven Verma may not be among us today, but people still believe in the iron of his strong acting. Deven Verma worked in Bollywood for 42 years and later distanced himself from acting. During an interview, Deven had told the changing tehzeeb the reason for leaving acting. Deven had shied away from acting but could not reduce his association with films. For this reason, Deven contributed to the film industry as a director and producer.

BR Chopra gave the first break:

Deven Verma was mainly from Gujarat and later his family shifted to Pune. Deven was fond of acting from the beginning. Before joining films, Deven was part of a drama group and used to do stage shows. Deven was given the first break in the film by BR Chopra. It is said that once Deven was doing a stage show in the show of ‘North India Punjabi Association’. BR Chopra also came to see this show. During the show itself, BR Chopra was so impressed with Deven that he immediately cast Deven for his film ‘Brahmaputra’.

The first fee was only Rs 600:

Deven was given a fee of Rs 600 for the film ‘Brahmaputra’. Deven’s debut film was a box office hit. After this AV Meiyappan’s ‘AVM Studio’ signed a three-year contract with Deven Varma and sent it to Chennai. Training for training in acting was given in Chennai, along with 1500 rupees a month. During this, Deven’s film ‘Gumrah’ was released in 1963 in which he played the role of a servant. Deven’s acting in this film was well received and then he never looked back.

Won 3 Filmfare Awards:

After this, Deven Verma has included many films like ‘Deewar’, ‘Anupam’, ‘Chor Ke Ghar Chor’,’ ‘Besharam’, ‘Bhola Bhala’, ‘Lok-Parlok’ and ‘Golmaal’. In the 70s, Deven Verma was the only comedian in Bollywood who was in great demand. Deven Verma won three Filmfare Awards. Deven Verma acted in about 149 films in his film career. The story of the entry of Deven Verma’s films is as interesting as his love story. Deven Verma married Ashok Kumar’s daughter Roopa Ganguly. Deven has worked with Ashok Kumar in many films. One day Ashok Kumar invited Deven home for dinner and that’s when he met Roopa. In the very first meeting, Deven and Roopa were giving heart to each other.

They married after 2 years:

One day Deven courageously talked about marrying Ashok Kumar’s daughter Roopa. Ashok Kumar had said at that time that we will think about it. After this, both of them got married after 2 years. Deven Verma said goodbye to the world forever on 2 December 2014 due to heart attack and kidney failure.
