Road rage: 52-yr-old beaten to death in Gurugram

Gurugram, Oct 13 (IANS) In a suspected case of road rage, a businessman was beaten to death by 15 unidentified local youths, including a scooty rider, near the Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway.

The injured man died late on Monday night while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A case of assault and attempt to murder was registered at the Kherki Daula police station on Monday. After the death of the victim, the section of murder was added to the FIR, the police said on Tuesday.

According to the police, Chetan Kumar, the complainant, a resident of Panchwati Colony in Ghaziabad, told the police that his relative Netrapal Singh (52) the victim, who was an electric engineer and was currently operating his business in Delhi.

On October 11, Singh along with Anjali and Alok, residents of Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh came to Gurugram for some work.

It is alleged that when they reached near Kherki Daula toll plaza on Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, a scooty rider rode his vehicle in front of their car and forced them to stop.

The scooter rider manhandled the victim, saying that the car had collided with his scooty.

The other occupants of the car intervened in the matter, but the scooty rider called about 15 local people to the spot.

All the culprits, starting beating Netrapal in a brutal manner with batons, kicks and baseball bats.

Alok and Anjali raised an alarm and sought help from other people. As soon as a crowd started gathering, the accused fled from the spot.

With the help of the people, Alok and Anjali admitted the injured to a private hospital and informed the police about the incident. Later the victim died during treatment.

“A section of murder has been added into the FIR and searches are on to nab the culprits. The probe team also scrutinised the nearby CCTV footage of the surrounding area to identify the accused. The body of the victim has been handed over to the family members after an autopsy on Tuesday. Further investigation is on,” Subhash Boken, spokesperson of Gurugram Police, said.
