Suspended JD(U) legislator Manorama Devi’s son, Rocky Yadav, and three others were sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday for killing a 19-year-old student in a road rage incident in Bihar’s Gaya district in 2016.

His father, Bindi Yadav, has also been sentenced to five years in jail for destruction of evidence.

On 31 August, Rocky and three others were pronounced guilty by a sessions court in Bihar in the case.

Back in 2016, Aditya Sachdeva and three of his friends were returning home when they overtook an SUV being driven by Rocky. The two groups indulged in a verbal altercation, following which Rocky pulled out his Beretta pistol and shot at the car’s rear windshield where Aditya was seated. He was seriously wounded and died at a local hospital.

A public uproar followed. The state government then put the case on a speedy trial and the charge sheet was filed within a month of the incident. On 6 March, the apex court denied vacating its order of cancelling the bail of Rocky Yadav in the case.

In October 2016, the SC stayed the bail granted by the Patna HC to Yadav, who is the main accused in the killing of Aditya in a road rage case in Gaya on 7 May.
