Sacramento police says multiple victims reported in shooting

Police in Sacramento and other emergency services in California are responding to a mass shooting with at least 13 victims in downtown Sacramento, local officials and witnesses say. Multiple victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sacramento Police Department says the shooting happened early on Sunday morning. The conditions of the victims were not immediately known.

Video posted on Twitter showed people running through the street as the sound of rapid gunfire could be heard in the background. Video showed multiple ambulances had been sent to the scene.

According to initial reports, at least 13 people were shot, including four people who were pronounced dead at the scene. Victims were found at multiple locations, possibly after fleeing the initial scene. The status of the suspect is unknown.

Police provided few details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting but said in a tweet that a “large police presence will remain and the scene remains active.”

A spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department would only say that officers are investigating a shooting with multiple victims. “Please avoid the area as a large police presence will remain and the scene remains active,” the spokesperson said.
