Schools in Mumbai, Delhi to remain closed today

According to reports, most of the schools have already sent out notifications to the parents with regard to the closure of schools on September 19, 2019.

Following heavy rain, the schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Konkan regions will be closed today, September 19, 2019.

While the Indian Meteorological Department had forecasted extremely heavy rainfall on Thursday in Mumbai and adjoining Raigad districts, an official of the IMD, the department has issued a red alert for Mumbai and Raigad districts.

 

Maharashtra Education Minister Ashish Shelar announced on social networking site Twitter that the government has decided to declare a holiday for the schools and junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane, and Konkan regions due to the red alert issued. The minister had also asked the respective district collectors to take a decision based on the conditions of the place.

 

 

While the red alert issued by the meteorological department pointed out precipitation of more than 204 mm in 24 hours which will start from Thursday morning, Mumbai will be receiving heavy rainfall on Friday as well along with Raigad receiving extremely heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, the private schools in Delhi will remain closed today after the Transporter’s Union, UFTA declared a one day strike in protest against the Motor Vehicles Act.

According to reports, most of the schools have already sent out notifications to the parents with regard to the closure of schools on September 19, 2019.

It might be mentioned that no official announcement from the government and the central schools in the city has been received.

However, schools such as DPS Mathura Road and Chinmaya Vidyalaya which were supposed to conduct examinations today have declared a holiday and rescheduled the examinations.
