Affectionately called the Elvis Presley of India, Bollywood superstar Shammi Kapoor was known for his charismatic screen presence and boyish charms. Shammi Kapoor received his first Filmfare award in the Best Actor category for the 1968 film Brahmachari.

The actor made an impressive Bollywood debut with the film Jeevan Jyoti in the year 1953. Shammi Kapoor was born on October 21, 1931, to filmmaker Prithviraj Kapoor and his wife Ramsarni. Shammi Kapoor is known for acclaimed films like Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Teesri Manzil, Junglee, An Evening In Paris, and Brahmachari. The actor has worked on some cult soundtracks which are an all-time favourite of many listeners.

Shammi started his acting career with the 1953 film, Jeevan Jyoti but the film didn’t run any well at the box-office. However, in 1957 came the film, Tumsa Nahin Dekha, which shot Shammi Kapoor to fame. Because of his stardom, Shammi Kapoor was linked-up with many leading ladies of the industry as is always the case with many Bollywood superstars.

The song was sung by Mohammed Rafi. The track had some notable dance moves from the yesteryear actor. The song was from the Shammi Kapoor cult film, PrinceBadan Pe Sitare had instantly managed to strike a chord with the masses due to its upbeat music and catchy lyrics. But it was Shammi Kapoor’s unstoppable energy which added to the beauty of this track.

Chahe Koi Mujhe Koi Junglee Kahe

This iconic song was pictured on Shammi Kapoor and Saira Banu. It is from the film, Junglee. True to the name of the film, this song earned Shammi Kapoor the Yahoo Man title. Composed by Shankar Jaikishen and sung by Mohammed Rafi, this number remains one of the most popular numbers in the history of Hindi film music.

O Haseena Zulfo Wali

Shammi Kapoor had immortalised this dance number with his infectious energy and sizzling dance moves. The song saw him shake a leg with yesteryear actor Asha Parekh. The song was from the film Teesri Manzil. Many iconic dance numbers came after this song but none of them matched the peppy and groovy vibe of this evergreen song.

Aaja aaja mai hun pyaar tera

This song was composed by RD Burman and sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle. Picturised on Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh the song featured in the film, Teesri Manzil. Shammi Kapoor is his usual carefree self in the song. He sheds all his inhibitions and seems to dance for the joy of it.

Aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke charche

Sung by Suman Kalyanpur and Mohammed Rafi, this song from the 1968 flick, Brahmachari, was picturised on Shammi Kapoor, Mumtaz and Pran. Shankar-Jaikishen had won the Best Music Director Award for the music of this film. Shammi Kapoor with his trademark shimmi step and Mumtaz in a bright orange saree enthralled the audience.
