Shravan Month is starting from July 6. The month is one of the most auspicious months for Hindus which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his wife,  Goddess Parvati. On the arrival of the holy month, Sharvan Mela,  the longest spiritual fair in India, is held in at the Baba Baidyanath Dham, the very famous Lord Shiva Temple at Deogarh in Jharkhand. Every year lakhs of devotees visit the temple and offer milk or water to Shiva Lingam. However, this year due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in India, Jharkhand Government has cancelled the Sharavan Mela 2020.

The Deoghar district administration has sealed all entry points to stop the arrival of pilgrims and Kanwars’ (the saffron-clad Saivites) following a ban on the annual Shravan Mela to be held from July 6 to August 3.

However, given the faith and convenience of Shiva devotees, an online virtual darshan will be conducted for the darshan of Baba Baidyanath in the month of Shravan. The administration has released necessary guidelines for the same.

The devotees will have to get themselves registered online and abide by the rules and regulations laid down by administration.

After a meeting in Samharnalaya Sabhagar between the DC and priests, it is decided that Baba Baidyanath’s people will be able to visit the entire month for 45 minutes a day and 45 minutes during the evening. In the morning puja and evening, Lord Shiva idol’s grand makeup can be witnessed virtually.

The information regarding the scheduled time of worship at Baba Mandir and the postponement of the Shravani Mela in Babadham this year should be disseminated on a large scale for the dissemination of right information to the devotees and they can visit the temple online on TV or social media platforms at the stipulated time at home.

Points to be noted:

  • Devotees will be able to visit Sawan daily from 4:45 am to 5:30 am and in the evening from 7:30 am to 8:15 pm.
  • Live telecast of morning worship and evening Idol’s makeup will be for 45 minutes each.
  • The holy puja will be telecasted on jhargov.tv including some private channels like deoghar.nic.in, Doordarshan, District Administration website and Facebook page.

Meanwhile, thousands of devotees took bath in the Holy river Ganga violating the lockdown guidelines on the occasion of Guru Purnima on Sunday and started walking for Babadham.

The coronavirus cases are spiking up in Jharkhand. With 61 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total tally of infection reached to 2,815. So far, 2,045 have been recovered from the coronavirus. The death toll stands at 20.

India, on Monday, has overtaken Russia as the third worst-hit country by coronavirus after the total number of cases neared seven lakh. The Union Health Ministry has reported 24,248 cases and 425 deaths in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases and deaths have pushed the total cases in the country to 6,97,413 and the death count to 19,693. The recovery rate stands at 60.85 per cent.
