Jharkhand: BJP's booth president, wife shot dead in Khunti district days before elections

West Bengal: In a shocking incident, a man identified as Nitya Mandal who worked as a labourer, was found dead at the booth office of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in West Bengal’s Siliguri on early Thursday morning. The incident comes at a time when the political scenario in the state is at its peak.

As per the reports, locals out on morning walk spotted the body hanging from the booth office in the Municipal Corporation Ward Number 36 and immediately alerted the cops.

The body of the 42-year-old deceased has now been sent for postmortem. The shocking case is still underway and the police are conducting an investigation to determine the nature of the death.

The incident comes only a day after both PM Modi and Mamata addressed rallies in Siliguri, taking jibes at each other.

Both Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee went for each other’s jugular in battleground West Bengal, with the prime minister castigating “speedbreaker Didi” for stalling the state’s development and the TMC chief hitting back warning he will face a “voter strike”.

West Bengal, with a total of 42 Lok Sabha seats, sends the third largest number after Uttar Pradesh’s 80 and Maharashtra 48.

The BJP, which clinched 17 per cent votes and two seats in 2014 national elections, has emerged as the second biggest party in the state.
