No money to feed: Single mother in viral video cries after BSNL fails to pay salary to employees

For the first time, state-owned telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) defaulted in payment of its monthly salaries. The firm has failed to pay the February salaries to around 1.76 lakh employees due to its financial crisis.

The fully government-owned corporation is undergoing a major cash crunch due to the price war with private companies.

The Mahanagar Telephone Nagar Limited (MTNL), another public sector telecom unit, too had failed to pay its employees their February salaries.

The plight of the unpaid employees can be seen in one video that has gone viral on social media.

A woman in the video can be seen crying. As she bursts out, she says that says she is unable to run her house because BSNL has failed to pay the February salaries to its employees. She continues saying that she is unable to feed her little children, and has no money to pay school fees of her two kids.

As per reports, BSNL’s associations and unions have claimed that the telecom industry’s financial health has suffered due to the predatory pricing of Reliance Jio. “Financial crisis is being faced by other operators also, but they are managing the situation by infusing huge amounts,” the All Unions and Associations of BSNL said in a letter to telecom minister Manoj Sinha.
