SJVNL gets three more hydro projects in Himachal

Shimla, Dec 24 (IANS) Public sector Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL), which owns and operates India’s largest hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh, on Thursday said the state government has allotted it three more projects with capacity to generate 501 MW.

The projects — 104 MW Tandi, 130 MW Rashil and 267 MW Sach Khas hydroelectric projects — are located in the Chenab river basin in the hill state’s Chamba district, SJVNL Chairman and Managing Director Nand Lal Sharma said.

Currently, the SJVNL is commissioning three projects –430 MW Reoli Dugli, 210 MW Purthi and 138 MW Bardang hydro projects, all in the Chenab basin.

Now it has six projects with a total capacity of 1,279 MW in the Chenab basin.

Sharma, who met Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here on Thursday, said the company has established its project office in Udaipur in Lahaul-Spiti district and the projects would be completed in a time-bound manner.

He assured the Chief Minister that environment protection and local issues would be given priority by the company.

SJVNL’s current installed capacity is 2,016.51 MW and it aims to be a 5,000 MW company by 2023.

Besides hydropower, the SJVNL has presence in wind, solar and thermal generation.
