Slight relief as rain hits Delhi; brings down 'severe' air pollution

Speedy winds and slight rain on Saturday afternoon has brought much-needed respite to Delhi-NCR amid severe pollution level.

The pollution levels in Delhi and neighbouring cities dropped marginally on Saturday. The city’s overall air quality index (AQI) stood at 407 at 10 AM on Saturday while it was 484 at 4 PM on Friday, according to official data.

As quoted in several reports, weather experts said there is a significant improvement in wind speed and it would increase gradually. Winds gusting up to 20-25 kilometres per hour are likely in the region from Sunday to Tuesday, they said.

Till Friday, at least four of the 38 stations in Delhi breached the 500 mark, the highest level of pollution on the air quality index (AQI) scale, while more than 20 stations recorded AQI above 480 when pollution levels shot beyond the ‘emergency’ category in the national capital.
