After Virat Kohli took a short break from cricket to be there for his newborn child, Telugu Desam Party’s Lok Sabha MP Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu too has taken a cue and applied for paternity leave from Parliament as he is expecting his first child with his wife.

Ram Mohan Naidu from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh has written to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla requesting nine days’ leave.

He wrote in the letter directed to the speaker- I am elated to inform you that my wife and I are expecting to welcome a child into this world in the coming week. I am eager to stay by her side during the last phase of her pregnancy, and for a few days post the coming of the baby. I would like to take paternity leave of nine days between January 29th and February 10th. As you are well aware, in addition to nutrition, nurturing relationships and a secure environment in the early days of a child’s life shape its well-being and cognitive development”

The MP- Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said that he is looking forward to being an equal contributor in the progress of their newborn child, as he believes that the childcare should not be the sole responsibility of the mother.

TDP MP Ram Mohan Naidu said that he has been actively participating in the debates and issues pertaining to country’s welfare and the rights of people of Srikakulam along with Andhra Pradesh. But at the current moment, as a responsible husband and soon-to-be father, he wishes to be by the side of my wife and child. Taking a step towards modern India, paternity leave and this ideology would surely act as a model for others.
