Sort out differences internally: K’taka BJP leader

Bengaluru, May 31 (IANS) There is no point in some party leaders going public with their issues, one should sort things out internally, said a senior Karnataka BJP leader on Sunday.

“Now we cannot cry on the road. We should speak within the party with the leaders and we can sort things out. Everybody knows who brought the government,” Katta Subramanya Naidu told IANS.

Naidu was referring to some disgruntled north Karnataka leaders such as Umesh V. Katti, Chitradurga MLA G. H. Thippareddy and Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal and others meeting over dinner recently and strategizing to exert pressure on Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to expand the cabinet and give them roles.

Naidu, a legislator from Bengaluru’s Hebbal said one cannot simply gather some 10 people and say he can lay claim to the Chief Minister’s seat.

“One person cannot say I want to become chief minister and gather 10 people at one place and spoil the party. That should not happen,” he said.

He said senior leaders such as Yediyurappa, Ananth Kumar, Eshwarappa, Sadananda Gowda and Jagdish Shettar, along with other leaders like him built the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka.

“If everybody is divided like this, then what will be the fate of the party? They should think of the party,” Naidu said.

Chief ministerial aspirants, he said, should first evaluate their quality, ability and service.

“That should be counted. Everybody can claim ‘I am senior’. But people know who built the party in Karnataka,” he pointed out.

Suggesting that if someone is aggrieved, they should first meet the Chief Minister or party president and discuss.

Naidu requested party leaders not to resort to such divisive acts and asked them to support the party and its unity.

On Saturday, a state BJP spokesperson said there is no danger to Yediyurappa government, expressing confidence in the chief minister that he is a seasoned leader who knows how to deal with dissidence.
