Howrah: A spurned youth beheaded an 18-year-old girl was beheaded near her home in Howrah’s Udaynarayanpur on Wednesday.

The teenage girl identified as Trisha Bag, a class 12 student at a school in Uluberia, was struck by a chopper at Bhowanipore. She died on the spot. Her killer was identified as Ajit Bag (30).

The killer, Ajit Bag after fleeing, hanged himself from a tree in Joypur, about 6 km from Udaynarayanpur.

According to the senior police officer, the boy killed the girl because she turned down his proposal and due to the rage he committed the crime and beheaded the girl and thus after that he committed suicide.

Howrah SP Soumya Ray said that “We are probing the girl’s murder and the youth’s death.”

Another case came into light on Wednesday, a firefighter, engaged in restoration work, was killed on Wednesday after he came in contact with a livewire in West Bengal’s Howrah district, following which three employees of private power utility CESC were arrested, police sources said.

Sukanta Singha Roy (27), an auxiliary fire operator posted at the Bally Fire Station, was electrocuted when he climbed a tree to chop its branches that fell on electric wires, they said.
