Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Season 2 of Squid Game on Netflix, which has taken the world by storm. While the premiere of the first season occurred in September 2021, fans have been anticipating the release of the second season this year. Unfortunately, it does not appear that will be possible, as the series is not expected to return until at least Fall or Christmas 2024.

There is however some good news. In a recent interview with What’s on Netflix, the lead actor of Squid Game, Lee Jung Jae, revealed that filming for Season 2 will begin in the summer of 2023. Similar to the duration of Season 1’s production, he estimated that Season 2’s filming will last approximately 10 months. Due to the increased scope of the second season, it may take longer to complete.

Assuming 10 months of filming beginning in the summer of 2023, it is likely that production will continue through the spring of 2024. Therefore, it is unlikely that Season 2 will be released in the first half of 2024. However, if the series is still scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2024, it could be the year’s most anticipated Christmas release. Even though fans will have to wait a little longer for Season 2 of Squid Game, the news of its return and the beginning of filming is certainly exciting.

The plot of Squid Game Season 2 continues from the cliffhanger of the first season, in which Detective Hwang Joon Ho discovers that the game’s Frontman is his missing brother, In Ho. Joon Ho falls off the cliff after being shot by In Ho, resulting in In Ho’s guilt and potential repercussions in future games. However, there is a possibility that Joon Ho is still alive.

Gi-Hon, another game survivor, observes the game recruiter attempting to recruit a new candidate and confirms that he is being monitored by the organisation. Gi-Hon makes the decision to leave and seeks vengeance against those responsible for the games. Gi-Hon intends to infiltrate the location of the games using the funds and possible aid from other victims in a similar situation.

According to lead actor Lee Jung-jae, the primary theme of Season 2 of Squid Game will be retribution. Lee will work with Lee Byung-hun, who portrayed Hwang In-ho in The Front Man and was in charge of overseeing the competition. If Gi-Hon can determine the identities of the VIPs and those responsible for the games, he may be able to eliminate them, which could result in the conclusion of the games.

“As we all saw at the end of season 1, the main plot of season 2 will be revenge, and since Lee Byung Hun sunbae was the key figure who controlled the games in season 1, it appears that the two of us will be the central characters in this next story. Actually, this will be my first time working with Lee Byung Hun sunbae. Back in the day, we worked on the drama White Nights 3.98, but we never had any scenes together. In any case, filming for “Squid Game 2″ will begin in the summer and last approximately ten months. COVID-19 caused delays during the first season’s production, which lasted approximately 10 months. Nevertheless, given that season 2 will be larger in scope, it will likely take longer to complete.”
